if i am the only one
who can be the wilderness
then let me be the wilderness
the tree trunk cannot become the branch
the jungle cannot become the garden
so why should i
- it is so full here in my self
(Rupi Kaur, “the sun and her flowers” 244)
This series is a celebration of the self that is grounded in its understanding of its own beauty. Painted with wet-on-wet technique, the figure blooms from the ground and settles into her space: gentle, tender, and sure.
The original painting was created as a commission in collaboration with the models depicted in this image. This piece captures a moment of motherhood — a point in time containing many changes in both body and spirit — intimate in its vulnerability but also its strength. This series reads like a love-letter to the self, these paintings honour the power of the feminine, and celebrate moments of spiritual growth and self-acceptance.
Limited-edition and hand-embellished with gold ink. Signed and numbered by the artist. Printed on fine art paper using archival inks.
