This coming July, I'll be spending some time in Toronto at Artscape Gibraltar Point, for an artist residency on Toronto Island (check out their webpage here). Luminous Bodies is a programmed artist residency on the theme of exploring heterogeneous human bodies... which is pretty much right up my alley.
I'll be working on expanding some of the work I've done in the past, but with more of a focus on incorporating the human figure. What that's going to end up looking like is still uncertain, but for now I've been doing more research on the link between body, gender and identity.
On my reading list is Cordelia Fine's Delusions of Gender: How Our Minds, Society and Neurosexism Create Difference, Jessica Valenti's Sex Object: A Memoir, and bell hooks' Art On My Mind: Visual Politics.
Keep an eye on my IG account (@k.schellenberg) for updates!
